About Jane Mcclanahan

A trained biologist, Janie has spent over 10 years discovering the flora and fauna of New York City and beyond. She received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from Pace University, with a concentration in marine science – focusing her independent studies on coral reef ecology. Her prior experience includes managing the flagship location of a national fitness brand, playing a key role in member relations at the Manhattan Yacht Club, and managing busy schedules as an executive assistant. She has traveled extensively including trips to Thailand, Cambodia, Argentina, and a transatlantic passage on a 100 foot schooner.

She has always been drawn to the world of plants, beginning as a child playing in her mother’s gardens and the woods of rural northwestern New Jersey. Janie is passionate about bringing the magic of gardens to those constrained by city limits. She has been with Jane Gil Gardens since 2016 where she is able to combine her managerial skill set with her true passion for botany and horticulture. When she’s not working in the field she can be found in her Brooklyn apartment, which doubles as her “plant lab” – propagating, growing new varieties, and testing conditions for over 100 species.
