A certified horticulturist from Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s training program, Craig has spent the last 5 years working in the garden design/build sector of New York City for companies such as Sprout Home, Verdant, and for designer Josie Lawlor. He has maintained and installed updates to the famed Rockefeller Center alpine terrace gardens, the Noguchi Museum Japanese garden, and the Greenwich Hotel penthouse gardens, in addition to high-end residential terrace, rooftop, and backyard gardens. Most recently, Craig directed the Field Operations for a Brooklyn-based hydroponic startup Farmshelf. Craig grew up on a commercial produce and chicken farm in southern New Jersey, where he gained an appreciation from a young age for fresh, homegrown food and the endless allure of plants. He loves maintaining a sizable, but manageable, collection of houseplants – a long-time favorite being the hoya, also known as wax plant, which can thrive and bloom repeatedly in SW facing windows when kept somewhat root-bound – contrary to usual thinking.

Prior to working professionally in horticulture, Craig spent several years leading customer data research and email marketing for Disney’s Broadway production unit (aka a lot of time in Excel), helping to open the premieres of Newsies and Aladdin on Broadway while optimizing ticket sales on The Lion King, Mary Poppins, and others. Before moving to New York in 2008, Craig spent 9 years in the great city of Philadelphia where he went to school and made his first professional foray into the great outdoors working for The Lighting Practice and Center City District. He was involved in the re-lighting project of Philly’s City Hall and the Museum of Art. Craig’s earliest passion was theater lighting design, and so to this day, he enjoys injecting some color, drama, and fun into his planting designs.
